Summer 2010 and ish

I pretty much am as good at blogging as I am at writing in a journal, which is to say that I never do it. That stated, I find that I always have a number of things running through my head that I want to express or explore later. Usually those musings find expression in conversation or are scribbled down as random notes and I never look at them again. In the future I will try to do better at coherently expressing some of my more salient thoughts via blog post, but right now I am pretty satisfied with the face to face conversations with thoughtful friends (two of my favorite things in the world bee tea dubs) that allow me to get those out. So for right now I would like to, with a nod to my friend Liel, make a list of those random things I jot down or want to say. without further... blah

Things I did this summer*^ (*not necessarily in chronological order. ^summer being defined as since winter semester ended until today):

1. Lupe Fiasco concert in Seattle with Jowanza. This also included visiting my brother and his family, attending a mariners game, going to the Seattle Art Museum, exploring the University of Washington, flying a bunch, talking about how the gospel is full of paradoxes, discovering my love of tank tops (for attractive females, not for me), hiking (sort of) at Snoqualmie Falls, saying "solid" and "status" way too many times, playing mario on the Wii with my nephew Bradley and listening my nephew Jack analyze the pleasures and pitfalls of making graham cracker, peanut butter, and chocolate chip sandwiches. (maybe this should become it's own blog post like Jowanza made it.)

***NOTE: I took a two day break in writing and am now not nearly so excited as I initially was. I also am having trouble recalling details, but we will see how it goes. Also, while I am stopped here, I love how self-important (my) blogs are. As if people needed to have not only a comprehensive list of what I did this summer (though I would wager it was better than what Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, or any of their three-word-name co-stars did last summer) but also a detailed log of my thinking in writing about them. Pathetic. At least I know it though. Also, one of my favorite idiosyncrasies is that I sometimes think on multiple levels at once, as we just witnessed. Don't make fun of me though, 'cause...

2. The conception, creation, marketing, and release of Surreal's NCMO's vol. 1 (maybe this should be a dissertation.)

listen to "Final Examination" here.

I like that it cuts off the right side of that image. It's fun to me.

Timeout- Did they really make TWO I know what you did last summer movies? How did we let that happen?? Wait, what's that wikipedia?? You say they made THREE!! FTMFL.

3. Other concerts - Passion Pit with Mayer Hawthorne and The County (towards the end of school actually), Modest Mouse (SLC Twilight Concert Series - went to be social), and Matisyahu (SLC Twilight Concert Series - went with high expectations which were not met). Bono effed up his back and U2 had to postpone til next year.. don't know where I will be then, but U2 live is like nothing else I have ever experienced, so I will try to find a way to be there.

4. got tired of posting pictures to my blog.

4a. Listened to Shad's new album TSOL enough to memorize it. Finally made plans to see him perform live (next month) and bought 2 Shad T-shirts.

5. Went camping.

6. Devoured the World Cup. Not literally, but you know what I mean.

7. Became hooked on FIFA World Cup 2010 for PS3. Not much a video game guy, but wow, I love that thing.

8. Made a lot of good friends.

9. Got a mohawk. Sorry, never did get any photos of it.

10. became a fan of the following bands/artists:
Arcade Fire
Jamie T
Das Racist
Kate Nash

11. Went to my cousin's wedding in southern California and stopped by Westwood visit my friends at UCLA.

12. Had a DTR and pitched a tent. Actually, not really. That's one of the lines Ben raps on Surreal's "Welcome to Provo Remix" though.

13. signed up for my last undergraduate course ever.. twice. And then decided to wait and take it later... twice.

14. Tried to do a little soccer camp with my nephew, but he was more interested in the slide at the park.

15. tried sushi for the first time.

16. took part in many notable discussion groups.

17. Went to a fire ceremony at a Hindu temple.

18. Ate 15 dollars worth of frozen yogurt in a single sitting.

19. made my third post on this blog... hopefully more coming, but this is more tiring than I thought.
